Theme camps are the soul of Black Rock City, islands of like-minded people united by a common idea, passion, or just a desire to create a cozy and interesting space.
When choosing a camp, it is worth considering that they are conditionally divided into "day" and "night" camps.
"Day camps" (often located in the 3:00 and 6:00 areas) offer a variety of activities, workshops, lectures, and treats during daylight hours. Here you can find yoga classes, meditation, participate in tea ceremonies or learn something new. At night, life in these camps subsides.
"Night" camps, on the contrary, come to life after dark: music (most often electronic) plays loudly here, parties and dances take place until the morning. Such camps are usually located behind the street at 9:00.
There are also camps specializing in the creation of large art objects on the Playa. Participating in such a camp can be an interesting experience, but it requires considerable physical effort and willingness to work as a team in difficult desert conditions. Beginners may want to consider other options.
What to get/where to find information: Information about the theme camps can be found in the
Burning Man travel guide, on the bulletin boards at the Central Camp, as well as in the mobile application (if available for a specific year). Take a notebook with you to write down the names and locations of the camps that interest you.
Examples of camps:- "Wild at Heart" – where rock 'n' roll plays 24/7, and bikers serve their signature cocktails to all comers;
- "Tea Valley" – where you can escape the heat under shady canopies while sipping aromatic tea and enjoying leisurely conversation;
- "The Observatory" – where telescopes offer glimpses of the stars;
- "The Library" – a quiet retreat for reading or leaving your message on the shelves;
- "Playa Post Office" – where you can send a postcard to anywhere in the world.
The list goes on and on—each year brings new and amazing camps to discover.
