What’s the best city to rent an RV in for Burning Man?
When choosing a starting city for your trip to Black Rock City, two key factors should be considered: distance and cost.
Las Vegas and Los Angeles are the most optimal starting points, offering the best balance between distance and rental prices.
San Francisco tends to be 20%–50% more expensive on average.
Reno is significantly overpriced, costing 2-3 times more than other cities.

Booking and payment
To reserve an RV for Burning Man, a deposit of $500 is required. Full payment for RV rentals is due 70 days prior to the start of the rental. If the reservation is made less than 70 days in advance, 100% of the cost is paid. When picking up the motorhome at the rental office, you only have to pay a refundable security deposit of $1000-$1500 (depending on the company). Payment of the deposit is made by a bank card issued in the name of the main renter.
When to book
The earlier, the better. Even if your plans change, you can change dates, cities, and models at any time, only with additional payment of the difference in tariffs, if any. In short, the best time to book is NOW.

For Burning Man, we recommend taking the maximum size, because the more space inside, the greater the comfort. The determining factor in choosing a motorhome can be price.

- Class C (alcove) – the most popular model in the middle price segment, fuel consumption is 25-30 liters per 100 km, some models with sliding walls, capacity from 3 to 7 people.
- Class C Large – medium-sized motorhomes, have a diesel engine with a consumption of 15-20 liters per 100 km, have slide-outs (sliding walls), capacity up to 6 people.
- Class A (house-bus) – the largest motorhomes, considered a premium segment with a corresponding price tag, fuel consumption is 30-40 liters per 100 km, there are slide-outs (sliding walls), capacity up to 6-8 people. Buses have the largest tanks for storing water, which is important on the beach.

Booking and choosing an RV
Reno is the closest but often the most expensive. Los Angeles and Las Vegas usually offer more options and better prices, while San Francisco and Sacramento can provide a good balance between distance and availability.
You need an RV from a rental company that officially allows Burning Man trips. Always check the deposit, insurance, cleaning fees, mileage and return conditions before booking.

Bring enough fresh water for your group and use it carefully. Paid pump-out services may be available on the playa, but gray and black water must never be dumped on the ground.
Cleaning and Returning the RV
Remove as much dust as possible while it is dry, then clean the interior and exterior. Professional RV detailing is strongly recommended.
The rental company may charge additional cleaning fees or deduct money from your security deposit. The amount depends on the company and the condition of the RV.
RV cleaning services are available in Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Book in advance, as many services fill up after the event.
Life on the Playa
Coverage is unreliable and networks can become overloaded. Download maps, rental documents, contacts and return instructions before entering the playa.
Bike rentals are not available on the playa. Rent or buy one before arrival, arrange transportation and bring lights, a lock and a repair kit.
Petrol-powered bikes and mopeds are not allowed. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are permitted if they meet Burning Man’s current power and speed requirements.
