California is a true paradise for travelers, offering a variety of experiences. This state is famous for its incredible natural landscapes: from the golden beaches of the Pacific Ocean to the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. Yosemite National Park attracts nature lovers with its granite walls and waterfalls, while the coast impresses with its beautiful cliffs and scenic views.
California is also known for its dynamic cities. Los Angeles attracts tourists with the bright lights of Hollywood, the famous Santa Monica Beach and entertainment culture, while San Francisco delights with its unique architecture, including the Golden Gate and the famous tram system.
At the same time, the state offers a wide range of gastronomy: from food trucks to luxury restaurants where you can taste world cuisine and, of course, wine which is famous all over the world.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there are excellent conditions for surfing, mountain biking and windsurfing, and nature lovers will be delighted with the world-famous national parks.
About the route
Make a 8−12 days trip by motorhome from San Diego to San Francisco. See the state in all its beauty. Drive from the warm beaches to the world-famous national parks. Take a walk at the foot of the giant trees, and then climb to the top and enjoy the scenery from a bird’s eye view. On the way, relax in nature from the hustle and bustle of the city, enjoy the scenery, delicious food and each other’s company.
Following details describe 9 days trip, you may extend it by staying longer at any point.
Shopping
If you need a supermarket, you can find on the map the nearest branch of these stores: ALDI, Walmart, Vons.
Camping
The itinerary includes organized campsites where you can stay during your trip. Almost all campsites have a reservation system, so we recommend that you take care in advance to take a place (especially if you are traveling during the season).
Also, if you wish, you can stay for a day in absolutely any place where you can stop (except private property and places with forbidding signs). Therefore, this can also be practiced. Here we will indicate the recommended options for paid campsites. There is also an application for finding free places to spend the night — park4night.
Dirty and clean water
To drain dirty water and refuel a new one, it is not necessary to stop at an organized campsite — such (free) places are available at every second gas station, and sometimes they are found along the curb in rest stops. You can fill the water tank at any gas station, there is a faucet almost everywhere.
Weather in California and the best time for a trip
The best time to visit California is considered to be spring and autumn, when the weather is the best on the West Coast of the United States, there are no winter rains and summer smog. From March to May and from September to November, the air is not as hot as in summer, it is much easier to breathe, and the number of tourists becomes significantly less than during the summer holidays. The average air temperature ranges from +10 to +22 degrees, which makes walking and sightseeing quite comfortable. In winter, the temperature ranges from an average of +5 to +10 degrees, and in summer it rises to +25.
General recommendations
We remind you that the motorhome goes slower than a regular car. Therefore, the road will take you longer than Google shows.
You can always choose which places to stay longer and which ones to leave next time if you don't keep up along the route. We are always in touch if you need help with your changed plans.
